Aaron Rodgers Reacts to Steelers Keeping 4 QBs in Rare Roster Move for 1st Time in Veteran's Career

Aaron Rodgers reacted to the Pittsburgh Steelers keeping four quarterbacks on the team's 53-man roster heading into the 2026 season.

"I was thinking it was a possibility, but I don't think I've been on a roster with four quarterbacks," Rodgers said Wednesday, per ESPN's Brooke Pryor .

"Obviously when you do that, you're taking away a spot from another place in the team," he added. "But at the same time, if the best 53 are going to make it -- and not saying they did -- I think those four are part of the best 53."

Rodgers will be on an active roster that contains four signal-callers for the first time in his career. Pittsburgh's quarterback room includes Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar and Will Howard.

Rudolph has spent five seasons with the Steelers while primarily operating in a reserve role. Pittsburgh selected Howard with a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft before adding Allar with a third-round pick in the 2026 draft.

"I'm happy for all those guys," Rodgers said, per Pryor. "Obviously looking to the future, those other three guys are going to have a chance when I'm done. And with the growth you saw with Will and obviously with Drew being drafted so far, but also playing well in camp, I'm not surprised at all and I'm excited about those guys' future."

The 42-year-old is the unquestioned starter in Pittsburgh and has appeared in 33 of a possible 34 regular-season games over the past two years, but it's worth noting that he previously suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 of his 2023 campaign.

If Rodgers misses time in 2026, Rudolph is the only backup quarterback with regular-season experience on his résumé. Still, the Steelers weren't interested in parting ways with Howard or Allar after recently drafting them.

Pittsburgh will open its 2026 season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 13.
