Jimmie Johnson Unveils Special No. 48 for Final NASCAR Cup Series Start

Jimmie Johnson's final NASCAR Cup Series start will look a lot like a trip through his Hall of Fame career.

Legacy Motor Club unveiled the No. 48 Toyota Camry XSE that Johnson will drive in the 2027 Daytona 500, giving NASCAR fans their first look at the car that will carry the seven-time champion into his final Cup race.

And this isn't simply another paint scheme.

The design brings together Lowe's, Ally and Carvana, three brands tied to distinct chapters of Johnson's career, on the same No. 48.

Johnson unveiled the car Saturday at Daytona International Speedway before the Coke Zero Sugar 400, then drove it for a ceremonial lap around the track.

"Seeing this car for the first time brings back a lifetime of memories," Johnson said. "Lowe's was there for the foundation of my Cup career and so many of its greatest moments. Ally supported me through my final full-time seasons and helped make it possible for the 48 to return for this race. Carvana believed in what came next and has continued to support my journey as a driver and team owner."

For Johnson, the car represents considerably more than one final paint scheme.

"To have all three represented on this car is incredibly meaningful," he said. "It honors where I've been, the relationships that made it possible and the people who are still beside me for one last ride."

Few sponsor-driver combinations in NASCAR history are as recognizable as Johnson and Lowe's.

Lowe's served as Johnson's primary sponsor throughout his full-time run at Hendrick Motorsports from 2001 through 2018, a stretch that produced all seven of his Cup Series championships and 83 victories.

That included an unprecedented five consecutive championships from 2006 through 2010.

Ally then became the primary sponsor of the No. 48 for Johnson's final two full-time Cup seasons in 2019 and 2020.

Carvana represents the chapter that followed.

The company partnered with Johnson during his move to INDYCAR and continued supporting him as he returned to NASCAR competition and became a co-owner of Legacy Motor Club.

Now all three are represented on the car Johnson will use to close his Cup career.

Legacy Motor Club described the design as a celebration of the people, partners and defining chapters behind one of NASCAR's most accomplished careers.

The significance extends beyond the sponsors, too.

Johnson is returning to the number that became synonymous with his career after Hendrick Motorsports agreed to loan the No. 48 to Legacy Motor Club for the 2027 Daytona 500.

Johnson's final race will take him back to one of the tracks where he produced some of his biggest moments.

The 2027 Daytona 500 is scheduled for Feb. 21 and will mark Johnson's final NASCAR Cup Series start.

Johnson won the Daytona 500 twice during his Hendrick Motorsports career, first in 2006 and again in 2013.

He will enter his final race with 83 career Cup victories, tied with Cale Yarborough for sixth on NASCAR's all-time wins list.

And, of course, there are the seven championships.

Johnson and fellow NASCAR Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt remain the only drivers to win seven Cup Series titles.

For one final afternoon at Daytona, Johnson will climb back into a No. 48 carrying reminders of nearly every chapter that got him there.

Lowe's represents the dynasty. Ally represents the end of his full-time Cup career. Carvana represents everything that came afterward.

Now they're all coming together for one last ride .
