Broadcaster forced to apologise over Jazz Chisholm Jr. comments after Yankees win over Red Sox

Boston radio broadcaster Will Flemming has been forced to apologise after his outburst towards New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The Yankees ended their series against the Boston Red Sox with a resounding 16-1 victory over the weekend.

During the latter stages of the game at Yankee Stadium, Chisholm was heavily criticised for stealing second and third base despite being so far ahead.

"Wouldn't you sort of like to see Moran drill Wells here? That's a selfish play. That's just padding your stats. That's who Jazz is," said Flemming during the broadcast.

The comments have seen significant backlash, with the broadcaster forced into making an apology through his social media channels in the days since.

Chisholm has hit 18 home runs this season, but he was unable to add another to his name in the emphatic 16-1 victory on Sunday.

It has not been a straightforward season for the second baseman, who has received some criticism over recent weeks.

Responding to the comments he made during his live broadcast, Flemming shared the following statement on X.

"Since I have been receiving nonstop calls and threats, I felt like it was important to hop back on here and say: My comments during yesterday's broadcast crossed a line. I'm emotional and a fan at heart and that bled into the broadcast," he said.

"I meant no disrespect to the Yankees players or organization. I could and should have used different words. These rivalry games get me fired up; I apologize for letting the emotion of the moment get the best of me."

Although it is clear that Flemming should not have said what he said, the reaction from some fans has certainly stepped over the line.

Chisholm actually responded to the comments himself, with the Yankees infielder laughing off Flemming's words.

"I didn't even know who that was until this morning, and I'm still not going to remember who he is after today," he said.

Hopefully, now an apology has been made, this can all be swept under the rug and everyone can move on.
