Jarvis In, Nikishin Out: Hurricanes Announce Training Camp Roster, Groupings

Wednesday afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes officially released their roster and groupings for Training Camp, which begins Thursday morning.

The top group, 'C1', consists of eight defensemen, 14 forwards, and three goaltenders – and is primarily the usual crew we're used to seeing, as well as additional veteran defensemen.

Meanwhile, the second group, 'C2', consists of seven defensemen, 12 forwards, and three goaltenders – and is essentially the Chicago Wolves and young prospects wanting to make an impression.

A great sign is the presence of Seth Jarvis in the top group, just three months after undergoing shoulder surgery . Of course, it is anticipated that he will still miss the early portion of the season, but it seems that his recovery is coming along nicely.

Just last week, Jarvis also participated in a practice – even ripping a slap shot, as reported by WNCN's Todd Gibson.

On the flipside, Alexander Nikishin is not present due to his lack of a contract, as confirmed in a statement by general manager Eric Tulsky Wednesday.

This comes as little surprise, as a player just simply cannot participate in training camps and preseason without any form of contract – either of the full-fledged or of the professional try-out variety.
