5 bold predictions for Rams vs. Chargers on Sunday
The Rams could have another big day on the ground against the Chargers in Week 8.
With the Los Angeles Rams taking on a winless Los Angeles Chargers team today , expectations are high. Here are five predictions to accompany such bold thinking.
Williams and Corum go for over 100 yards each
Kyren Williams and Blake Corum went for 99 and 93 yards, respectively, against the Las Vegas Raiders last week. Now against a Chargers team that has yet to display the ability to engineer winning drives, there's no reason for the Rams to attack the air unnecessarily.
It would not be shocking to see them get at least 18 carries each, and with their offensive line and tight ends leading the way, the yardage should be easy to find.
The Chargers' interior offensive line is horrible, and even if they triple-team Aaron Donald, I still don't think they could stop him. Quarterback Justin Herbert always steps up in the pocket, and sometimes he runs into his own linemen. Thus, Donald should be in position to not just record his first sack since returning, but to have two on the day.
Kam Curl has been the undervalued backbone of the Rams' defense, being able to play in a variety of spots, really taking the involvement of the safety to the next level in Chris Shula's scheme. He's a natural safety blanket to prevent the big play, and Herbert has been throwing questionable balls all year.
When the Rams revert to their balanced offense, Matthew Stafford's passing yards may not be as high as they once were, but his efficiency goes through the roof. His ability to read defenses, operate play action, and be comfortable with having his back turned to the defense has been the perfect pairing for their 12 and 13 personnel offenses.
Stafford tosses three scores, while hitting eight different pass catchers on the day. He also has over 22 completions.
With kicker Joshua Karty back in the fold, no one outside of the organization really knows what things will look like with current starter Brandon McManus. Is McManus the kicker, and is Karty doing kickoffs? Is there a certain range that the Rams trust Karty with more?
To spice things up, I predict McManus misses at least one field goal or extra point to make the conversation even more interesting heading into November.
