Dylan Larkin Publicly Humiliated By His Own Fans On Friday Night.

Dylan Larkin gets a brutal reality check on Friday night.

· 339 words

Boy oh boy.... we all expected the reception to be a frosty one, but this may have exceeded even the expectations of the most fanatical Dylan Larkin haters.

On Friday night, the hometown hero turned captain who became a disgraced pariah in the City of Detroit in just the span of a single summer had to face the music in front of his home crowd at Little Caesars Arena and boy was that music as loud as could be.

In spite of the fact that Larkin will not be playing in the first two games of the season for the Red Wings, he was unable to hide from the reaction of home town fans in the season opener when even the players scratched or sidelined due to injury were introduced to the crowd. The crowd was muted for most of the introductions, offering light applause as the names were rattled off, but when it came time for Larkin's name to be called you could have cut the tension in the building with a knife.

We went from a brief moment of total silence from the crowd as Larkin's name was announced over the loudspeakers, but as soon as the name "Larkin" had left the announcers mouth the building exploded in a chorus of boos unlike you've ever heard for a player who is currently standing on home ice in the NHL. The Red Wings knew it was coming and they immediately tried to play some loud music to drown out just how bad the boos were, but the vitriol that came pouring out from the crowd was so loud that even the blaring music couldn't deafen the boos.

In this angle shot from the crowd you can actually see Larkin shifting uncomfortably as each name is called, as if he knows what's coming.

And here is how it looked and sounded during the live broadcast:

The Red Wings had to have know they were setting Larkin up to be embarrassed, and that is exactly what transpired on Friday night.
