Jets downgrade 3 players for Chiefs clash

The New York Jets will be without three additional players for their Week 9 road matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs after downgrading Joseph Ossai, Nahshon Wright and VJ Payne to out on Saturday.

As New York (2-6) looks to snap a three-game losing streak against Kansas City (5-2), the organization made the changes to its latest injury report just one day before Sunday's contest.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the updates Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"The #Jets have downgraded Joseph Ossai, Nahshon Wright and VJ Payne to out. All were previously questionable."

The announcement confirms that all three players will miss Sunday's game after initially having a chance to suit up. Their absences leave the Jets with additional depth concerns heading into a difficult road matchup against one of the AFC's top teams.

Ossai's absence will affect New York's defensive front, while Wright's unavailability reduces the team's options in the secondary. Payne's absence further limits the Jets' available personnel as they attempt to turn their season around.

Jets face mounting challenges ahead of Week 9 matchup with Chiefs

New York enters Sunday's contest following a disappointing 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8 . The defeat marked the Jets' third consecutive loss and dropped them to 2-6 through their first eight games.

The Jets now face another difficult challenge against a Chiefs team that has won five of its first seven games. Kansas City will look to capitalize on its home-field advantage while New York attempts to avoid falling further behind in the AFC standings.

With three more players officially ruled out, the Jets will need other members of their roster to step into larger roles against Kansas City.

New York will face the Chiefs on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS, hoping to end its losing streak and secure its third victory of the season.
