Could Commanders get defensive captain back in Week 4 vs Colts?
Could the Commanders get Frankie Luvu back on Sunday?
Will the Washington Commanders get back linebacker Frankie Luvu for Sunday's Week 4 game against the Indianapolis Colts ? Luvu, who injured his groin in Week 1 at Philadelphia, traveled with the team to London, which was seen as a positive sign that he was close to returning.
Through two days of practice this week, Luvu has participated, but on a limited basis. During Thursday's practice, Luvu didn't look like a player who was limited. He moved around well and showed no signs of a groin injury.
The Commanders need Luvu back. The starting inside linebacker and the player who wears the green dot, Luvu, looked comfortable in Washington's new defensive scheme in Week 1. With Luvu out for the past two weeks, rookie Sonny Styles and Leo Chenal started at inside linebacker. The three were expected to rotate throughout the season. With Luvu out, Styles wore the green dot. Unfortunately, Chenal suffered a neck injury in Sunday's win over Seattle and is out for the remainder of the season.
Luvu was outstanding in his first season for the Commanders in 2024, earning second-team All-Pro honors. However, he struggled last season and often played out of position. Under new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones, he has returned to what he does best: attacking downhill and occasionally blitzing.
With one practice to go, Washington will likely announce Luvu's status on Friday. The Commanders and Colts kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday in London.
