‘21-day non-entry rule’: Why Asa Tribe has been barred from joining England Lions in West Indies
Asa Tribe has been ruled out of the England Lions' West Indies tour due to a 21-day non-entry rule.
Asa Tribe has been barred from joining England Lions in West Indies due to a 21-day travel restriction in Saint Kitts & Nevis.
The Glamorgan batter recently represented Jersey in ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League in Nairobi, Kenya.
The restriction is linked to Ebola concerns in Kenya and other African countries.
Tribe has returned to the UK, with the ECB liaising with authorities.
Why has Asa Tribe been barred from joining England Lions in West Indies?
Glamorgan batter Asa Tribe is set to be unavailable for England Lions' white-ball series against West Indies A due to being barred from entering Saint Kitts & Nevis following his recent trip to Kenya.
The 22-year-old was picked in both T20 and ODI squads but will miss out on traveling to the Caribbean country after falling under their 21-day ban imposed for individuals who visited countries with cases of Ebola fears.
This follows an appearance by Tribe for Jersey in ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League held in Nairobi, Kenya in October.
Why does the 21-day non-entry rule apply?
This Government of Saint Kitts & Nevis imposed the restriction due to apprehensions regarding the Ebola virus infection in some regions of Africa.
As per its October 15 travel advisory , non-citizens who have been to any one of six specified high-risk nations within 21 days prior to their arrival will not be permitted entry into the nation.
The restriction also covers passengers that do not belong to the nation and have made a transit journey through any of these countries regardless of their having left the airport premises.
The advisory will be in force until such a time when the authorities decide on changing the advisories.
What has the ECB said about Asa Tribe's absence?
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Tribe had already returned to the UK after the entry ban.
"Saint Kitts & Nevis currently have a 21-day non-entry rule in place for non-nationals who have been in Kenya due to the Ebola situation in Kenya and seven other countries in Africa," an ECB spokesman said to BBC Sport Wales .
"Asa is back in the UK, and we are in touch with the relevant authorities," the spokesperson added.
Tribe's absence has nothing to do with the virus; there has not been any report about him contracting or being a suspected patient of the virus.
How has Asa Tribe performed for Glamorgan?
Tribe had a good 2026 season with Glamorgan. He amassed 940 runs, averaging 37.60, including two centuries in 14 County Championship games.
Additionally, he has left a mark in England Lions' games, with 129 not out against Australia A in Brisbane in December 2025, followed by 135 against South Africa A in May 2026.
Although Tribe has played international games representing Jersey, he is still eligible to play for England since his country is an ICC full member and Jersey is an associate member.
Tribe has been quoted talking about his desire to represent England senior team, and he has also been negotiating with England managing director Rob Key.
