Kenya's Agnes Ngetich set a new women-only half marathon world record when she claimed success at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen.

Ngetich clocked 1 hour 5 minutes and 15 seconds as she finished 50 seconds ahead of nearest rival Veronica Loleo and also won the team half marathon rankings with her team-mates.

Ngetich had started 2026 with a comprehensive 42-second victory in Tallahassee to claim a first individual global title with a World Cross County Championship triumph.

The Kenyan long-distance runner backed up that win in the United States at the start of this year with an even better showing in Denmark.

The men's half-marathon was won by Sweden's Andreas Almgren in a European record 58:06 minutes. The European 10,000m champion prevailed five seconds ahead of Kenya's Nicholas Kipkorir.
