Daily Bean: Minten Extension; Crosby Negotiating; Red Wings Contract Problem

The Boston Bruins locked in a 22-year-old center, hit the ice yesterday, and are hitting the links today.

Hockey season is right around the corner.

The Bruins made a long-term commitment and signed Fraser Minten to a seven-year deal. The Seventh Player Award winner had 35 points during his rookie season, and the two sides got the deal done before Minten's second training camp with the team.

The Bruins also announced details for rookie camp and the prospects showcase taking place in Buffalo .

Elsewhere around the league, Sidney Crosby talked about his future, and an RFA in Detroit is finding himself in a tough contract situation as camp approaches. There's more on Quinn Hughes ' negotiations, and nobody is keeping a closer eye on it than the Devils. Brady Tkachuk also spoke yesterday, as did some of his old teammates in Ottawa , and they talked about Tkachuk's departure.

Aside from Minten's extension, there were two more signings and a PTO handed out.

MINTEN : Bang. The Bruins are back in business, and Fraser Minten is sticking around through the 2033-34 season. Yesterday morning, the Bruins announced a seven-year, $50.4 million deal ($7.2M AAV) for the 22-year-old.

The contract includes a 16-team no-trade clause for the 2032-33 season and a 10-team no-trade clause for 2033-34.

Minten is coming off a 35-point season, and he has 40 points in 100 career NHL games. With the rising cap, the Bruins are following league trends and committing long-term to a younger player.

Boston Bruins (video via YouTube) : Minten spoke after yesterday's captains' practice. He said he got the sense an offer was coming after the exit meetings, talked about committing for seven years and earning "respect through your actions, not through your contract."

PROSPECTS : That's not all. The Bruins announced the roster for rookie camp, as well as the schedule and streaming information for the pair of games in Buffalo on Sunday and Monday. There are 16 prospects within the organization and seven invites.

Today marks the 23rd annual Boston Bruins Foundation Golf Tournament, while the Bruins return to Warrior Ice Arena for captains' practice tomorrow.

The NHL also announced an updated start time for the Bruins' home game against the Avalanche on December 1, which follows Patrice Bergeron's jersey retirement ceremony . Instead of 7:30 PM, the game will now start at 8:00 PM.

Sportsnet : Sidney Crosby is entering the final year of his deal, but he's not stopping here. His agent is currently talking to Kyle Dubas, and Crosby fully expects to be at training camp in 2027. Luke Fox has more from Crosby, who was at the NHL's Player Media Tour in Nevada.

Detroit Hockey Now : The Red Wings need to sign Simon Edvinsson . The Red Wings do not have a GM or a president. Nobody is talking to the 23-year-old; he can't negotiate a deal! He will be at training camp, even if he remains unsigned; to his knowledge, he is footing the insurance bill.

Edvinsson also told a Swedish outlet that there has been "some interest from other clubs" regarding an offer sheet, but he wants to stay in Detroit.

New Jersey Hockey Now : The Devils are keeping a close eye on the Quinn Hughes contract negotiations in Minnesota . Chris Johnston shared his understanding of the situation on TSN 1050, and it appears that Minnesota wants to get a deal done and the money is there, but Hughes has not made up his mind.

Sportsnet : Brady Tkachuk talked about leaving Ottawa, but didn't give Senators fans too many answers as to why he left. He called it a hard decision, one he kept close to the vest, and that left many of his old teammates, including Jake Sanderson , surprised.

TSN : The Carolina Hurricanes signed defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph to a one-year deal worth $850K. Joseph had one goal and six points in 31 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season.

TSN : The San Jose Sharks brought goaltender Ilya Samsonov back to North America on a one-year deal. Samsonov spent last season with HC Sochi (KHL) and finished with a 3-8-0 record, 3.27 GAA, and .903 SV%.

Alex Daugherty (via 𝕏) : The Nashville Predators signed Tyson Jost to a PTO. He had 16 points (8-8–16) in 69 games with Nashville last season, and he has 165 points (69-96–165) through his 564-game NHL career.
