Brock Faber timeline unknown after skull fracture, surgery

Brock Faber suffered a skull fracture when he was hit in the head by a puck last Friday night.

Faber underwent surgery on Sunday. There is no timetable for Faber's return.

"Brock Faber suffered a fracture to his skull. He had surgery on Sunday that was successful. We'll update you guys at some point in time on a possible return to play," Wild general manager Bill Guerin said. "Brock's at home. He's doing well. He's just resting, and we're going to leave it at that."

Could the injury keep him out for the entire season?

"I'm not getting into any of that right now," Guerin answered. "He just had a serious surgery. He's doing well. He's doing really well, which is good news. We'll follow the doctor's leads."

Faber was injured when Miro Heiskanen's shot hit him in the side of the head during the intense preseason finale between the Wild and Dallas Stars on Friday, Sept. 25. Faber wound up playing another 10 minutes before he left the game.

"He seemed okay," Guerin said. "As things progressed, we had to pull him."

He was placed on injured reserve retroactive to the injury. Standard injured reserve in the NHL mandates that a player miss a minimum of seven days from the date of the injury. Long-term injured reserve requires a player to miss at least 24 days or 10 games.

The Wild open the regular season Thursday night in Nashville.
