Mike Sullivan's Rangers 'building an identity' amid perfect MSG start
The New York Rangers improved to 6-0-0 at MSG with Monday's 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks and are building an identity in the process.
The Rangers avoided a three-game skid with Monday's 5-2 win over the Ducks, scoring 1:18 into the first period before New York's three goals in the second buried Anaheim.
"I think we had a lot of juice tonight and kind of fed off that and just kind of kept it going through 60 minutes," said RW Gabe Perreault , whose goal 10:17 into the second period padded the Rangers' 3-0 lead.
New York (7-3-1) is 6-0-0 at MSG, a stark contrast from the 2025-26 season's 14-20-7 home record that contributed to last year's 34-39-9 record and second straight postseason miss.
"When we're talking about building an identity, I think it's an identity that we can play no matter where we play," said Rangers coach Mike Sullivan . "We're trying to play a certain game out there where we dictate the terms, where we have the ability to play to our strengths. I thought we did a pretty good job tonight. We've done a pretty good job at home to this point. We have a lot of hockey in front of us and we realize that.
"... I think that we're constantly going to strive to improve and get better. But I do think our guys have a pretty clear understanding of what winning hockey looks like for our team. And I think, when you have that understanding as a group, that's when you're starting to establish an identity in the true sense of the word."
After a two-game trip in Canada with games at the Toronto Maple Leafs (Thursday) and Ottawa Senators (Saturday), New York returns to MSG and looks for 7-0-0 next Monday against the Los Angeles Kings.
"It's nice," said RW Oliver Bjorkstrand , who scored a pair of goals to boost New York's 5-0 lead in the third period. "You want to win at home. I think it's a good spot to be in for fans and just the overall momentum. So, yeah, six is really good. It's a good stretch and, naturally, we would like to keep that going."
