Johnson missed Week 1 with a foot injury, Weeks 8 and 9 with a back injury, and suffered a season-ending thumb injury in Week 11. He finished with 17 rushing yards on two carries across seven games and four offensive snaps.

Roschon Johnson faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster as the team's No. 3 running back. He is competing against Salvon Ahmed , who has had a strong training camp. Ahmed has totaled 53 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards in the preseason, including a 49-yard touchdown reception against the Browns. Meanwhile, Johnson has totaled 76 rushing and four receiving yards.

For the Bears, he named Roschon Johnson , noting his limited offensive role last season and struggles to stand out this offseason. Patra also added that Johnson lacks dual-threat ability, which makes him a poor fit, especially with D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai receiving most of the touches.

"The former fourth-rounder has struggled to gain traction this offseason. Lacking keen dual-threat ability doesn't make him a great third-back option for Ben Johnson's offense behind D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai . Johnson took just two carries in seven games last year," Patra said.

A trading team would inherit a one-year, $1.145 million contract, per Over The Cap . If Johnson gets traded, plays well this season, and signs elsewhere next March, the trading team may secure a compensatory pick for the 2028 NFL Draft. The Bears would prefer to trade the former fourth-round pick and receive draft compensation rather than cutting him outright.
