Caleb Douglas in danger of missing second straight game for Miami Dolphins

Douglas has yet to practice since injuring his ankle late in week two loss.

Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas had a debut for the ages — nabbing five passes for 94 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in week one. Unfortunately, the young player suffered an ankle injury in the fourth-quarter of Miami's week two loss to the San Francisco 49ers . He was seen in a walking boot following the game and eventually missed the team's tilt against the Kansas City Chiefs at home in week three.

According to David Furones of the Sun Sentinel, Douglas was not seen practicing for the Dolphins on Thursday — continuing the recent trend of missed practices for the rookie while he recovers from his ankle ailment. That puts his availability for Miami's week four contest on the road against the Minnesota Vikings in serious jeopardy despite head coach Jeff Hafley's early week optimism while labeling Douglas as "day-to-day."

In his absence last week, fellow rookie receiver Chris Bell led all Dolphins' receivers in receiving yards — tallying 67 yards on four receptions. Malik Washington added five receptions for 56 yards.

Going against a Brian Flores led Vikings defense, quarterback Malik Willis could benefit greatly from Douglas's separation skills. After all, Douglas led the NFL in separation yards per route run after his week one showing — averaging 5.3 yards of separation each time he ran a route. Unfortunately, it looks like Willis, and all Miami Dolphins' fans, will likely have to wait at least one more week to see Douglas back in action.
