Warriors Sign Ex-Celtics Forward to Help Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors have a new shooter on their roster.

ESPN's Shams Charania broke the news that Georges Niang has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal with the Warriors.

Niang, 33, is a career 39.9 percent 3-point shooter who will help space the floor for Stephen Curry .

A Massachusetts native, Niang never appeared in a game for the Boston Celtics , but he was a part of the franchise for around a month. On July 7, 2025, the Atlanta Hawks sent him to Boston as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade. The Celtics then traded Niang to the Utah Jazz on August 6, 2025.

Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said at the time that he would've "loved" Niang to play for the Celtics. The decision to part ways with him was ultimately a financial one .

"Obviously being from here you want to play for your hometown team, but I don't think as a professional athlete you have enough time to be heartbroken or upset," Niang said . "You just move on and go along. It's just another part of the journey."

Niang will now get an opportunity to carve out a role in Steve Kerr's rotation.

Niang missed all of last season due to a foot injury. In 2024-25, he averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from 3.

Over two-thirds of Niang's shot attempts in his career have come from 3-point range. He gives the Warriors a reliable frontcourt shooter who can open up the floor for Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green .

In addition to Niang, the Warriors agreed to a one-year deal with Brandon Williams.

The two signings complete Golden State's 15-man roster.
