Eli Manning opens up on relationship with Jaxson Dart: 'I'm on his side'

Eli Manning knows life without Jaxson Dart will be hard for the New York Giants .

The Giants raced out to an excellent start to the 2026 season, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 in Week 1. Dart was a big reason for that victory as he turned in arguably the best performance of his young NFL career, posting three touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 134.2 passer rating to go along with 54 rushing yards.

However, that feel-good moment was short-lived as the Giants' franchise quarterback suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first drive of their Week 2 loss against the Los Angeles Rams .

Manning, who is best known for leading the Giants to two Super Bowls, said he has a "good" relationship with Dart and texted him after the Cowboys game. He's always wishing for the best for Dart and the Giants.

"I sent him a text after the game last week, and thought he played outstanding," said Manning of Dart. "They threw a lot on his plate, and he was, you know, it seemed like he had great control of the offense. And it's a brand new offense; he's in his second year. It's not that easy, so I thought he did a great job. I feel like we have a good relationship, and you know, I think he knows I'm on his side and I want him to do well. I want the Giants to do well and right the ship."

With Dart sidelined for the entirety of the season, he'll be rehabbing and looking ahead to 2027. There is a slim chance that Dart could return for the playoffs if the Giants qualify. For the most part, Dart will be looking ahead to next season.

Prior to the game against the Rams, Manning said he's not someone who often texts players advice, but he gives it out whenever they ask.

"I'm not one of those that gives advice unless asked for advice, so it's more just a text of encouragement, a text of congratulations," said Manning. "Over the years or over the course of the season, I'll see him a few times in person. He may ask a question, how to deal with this, what to do, whatever it might be. What to do in an off week or how to handle this type of coach or how to handle this type of situation or a player. So happy to give advice when asked."

The Giants will have to move forward without Dart as they head into Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans with Jameis Winston at quarterback.
