Colts move to 10-0 with 3-0 week to lead Top Performers Sept. 14-19

BYESVILLE — Meadowbrook High's volleyball team capped a 3-0 week, by taking care of visiting Gahanna Lincoln in three straight sets on Saturday, Sept. 19 to improve to 10-0 overall, 8-0 in MVL play

During Saturday's 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 victory over the Lions, senior Natalee Norman led the way with 14 kills, 14 digs, with a pair of aces. Sophomore Addie Schultice finished with 17 kills, senior Kara Launder added five assists, 12 digs and freshman Alli Back collected 12 digs with three aces. Freshman setter Bricelynn Vargeson handed out 35 assists with 18 digs and senior Lya Thompson had six kills.

The Colts picked up another sweep on Wednesday, Sept. 16 with a 25-4, 25-4, 25-22 MVL win over visiting Philo with Schultice putting up 16 kills, six digs, and four aces. Launder finished with 19 digs, three aces, Back tallied three aces with eight digs. Norman racked up 14 digs, six kills, two aces, Vargeson had 28 assists, nine digs and freshman Lily McManaway chipped in with seven kills and four blocks.

Meadowbrook opened the week with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 MVL road sweep over Sheridan on Tuesday, Sept. 15 with Schultice finishing with 11 kills, 11 digs and 13 points for the Colts. Norman contributed 17 points, 14 kills, seven digs and Vargeson passed out 36 assists with 12 digs. McManaway added nine points, six kills and Thompson added 10 points, nine kills.

Garaway 3, Shenandoah 0: The Zeps suffered a 25-20, 25-16, 30-28 setback to the host Pirates during a road trip on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Garaway High School.

Senior Molly Van Fleet led Shenandoah (7-4) with six points, 15 kills, 19 digs and three blocks, with sophomore Emma Dailey adding six points, 10 assists, 13 digs and sophomore Hayley Hupp collected three points, 14 digs. Senior Shayla Holcomb handed out 26 assists, along with three kills, three points.

Bobcat Tennis Team Picks Up Win in Tri-Match Split : The Bobcats girls tennis team split a tri-match Saturday at the Cambridge City Park courts. The Bobcats won the first match beating East Liverpool 5-0 but dropped the second match losing to Marietta 5-0.

Against East Liverpool, Madi Peebles picked up a win by forfeit at first singles. Emrie Boreman beat Harper Bryce at second singles, 6-4, 6-0, and Julia Patterson battled back from dropping the first set to down Oriah Coles 2-6, 6-1, (10-6) in third singles.

At first doubles, Madison Caim and Rylee Wagstaff defeated Ariora Olmsted and Isabella Collins 6-4, 6-0, while Emily Epler and Brianna Davis secured the sweep by winning 6-4, 6-3 over Gabrielle Johnson and Juliana Beatty at second singles giving Davis her first varsity win.

In singles action, Emily Epler lost 1-6, 0-6 to Olivia Vessels. Julia Patterson fell 1-6, 1-6 to Lily Marshall and Brianna Davis fell 2-6, 0-5 to Farah Sarker.

In doubles, Madi Peebles and Emrie Boreman lost 1-6, 1-6 to Audrey Goeller and Maya Diki and Madison Caim and Rylee Wagstaff lost 1-6, 1-6 to Jaida Perez and Eva Tornes.

Muskies' golfers take third in MVL postseason tournament: John Glenn's golf team finished with a team score of 326 to take third place at the Muskingum Valley League Postseason Tournament at the Cambridge Country Club.

River View took first place with 290, followed by runner-up West Muskingum at 324 with Meadowbrook coming in eighth place with 368.

Will Hubal, who earned All Muskingum Valley League recognition led the Muskies with a round of 75, followed by Carter Shiplett 78, Quentin Yanosik 83, Easton Hursey 90, Hayden Hayes 91, and Alex Hallowell 97.

Kam Winnett paced the Colts' effort with 84, along with Jake Smithberger 92, Gage Lynch 95, Braxton Murray 97, and Braxton Sigman 109.

John Glenn 3, Crooksville 0: Junior Blair Briggs led the Muskies to the MVL win over the Ceramics with a busy day on the volleyball court. Briggs finished with seven kills, four assists, four digs, and three blocks for John Glenn which improved to 6-5 overall, 4-4 in MVL play.

Sophomore Audi Shook added eight kills, four aces, two digs, junior Brynli Cavezza collected three kills, nine aces, sophomore Kamry Lahrmer handed out 16 assists, with three aces, four digs and junior Mya Stamm finished with four kills, six digs and a pair of blocks.

Marietta 3, Shenandoah 1: The visiting Tigers collected the win over the Zeps who slip to 7-3 in Sarahsville.

Senior Molly Van Fleet enjoyed a big night in the loss with 26 kills, 20 digs, six points and four blocks, while sophomore Emma Dailey finished with nine kills, 19 assists, four blocks, 13 digs and two points. Senior Shayla Holcomb collected nine points, 29 digs and sophomore Sophy McVicker added seven points and 11 digs for Shenandoah.

Cambridge 3, Indian Creek 2: Junior Cami Moore tallied a hat trick to lead the Bobcats' to the slim victory in Buckeye 8 action in Wintersville.

Brylee King and Paige Hulse each added an assist in the win as Cambridge improved to 5-3.

"We had multiple goal line blocks by several different defenders in the second half," Cambridge head coach Tim Fox said. "We received an amazing goal keeping effort by Kylie Tilton."

All of the scoring occurred in the opening half as Moore scored in the first five minutes of action before Cambridge fell behind 2-1. A pair of goals in the last 10 minutes of the first half gave Cambridge a 3-2 lead that it held for the entire second half.

Coshocton 4, John Glenn 0: The Muskies struggled to find any offensive punch dropping the MVL decision to visiting Coshocton in New Concord.

Coshocton (7-2-1, 2-2-1 MVL) jumped out to 3-0 lead at the halftime break, and then added an insurance tally in the second half over John Glenn which slipped to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-2 in MVL play.

Coshocton finished with a 14-4 edge in shots on goal, with Muskies' goalkeeper Brenna Milliner collected 10 saves off those 14 shots.

Zanesville 4, Cambridge 1: The young Bobcats once again showed improvement despite playing shorthanded due to illness and fair week with the road loss to the Blue Devils.

Madi Peebles and Emrie Boreman picked up the lone varsity win defeating Zanesville's Tri Campbell and Hope Blackford, 6-3, 6-3 at first doubles.

In second doubles, Madison Caim and Rylee Wagstaff battled but fell 2-6, 2-6 to Aliyah Cornell and Audrianna Hayes.

Playing first singles, Julia Patterson lost to last year's district runner, Bella Jarrett, 6-0, 6-0. Playing second singles for the first time, freshman Brianna Davis had her hands full with JoJo Jarrett, and lost 0-6, 0-6. Another freshmen playing her first varsity match Allie Voorhies lost 1-6, 0-6 to Cyaly Daleymaple at third singles.

Shenandoah 3, Caldwell 0: The visiting Zeps extended their win streak to four straight with the sweep over Caldwell to move to 7-2.

Sophomore Emma Dailey led Shenandoah's effort with seven points, an ace, 11 kills, 16 assists, 14 digs, while senior Molly Van Fleet collected 13 kills, 14 digs, with four blocks, two points. Senior Shayla Holcomb recorded 14 points, 21 digs, and sophomore Hayley Hupp finished with eight points, an ace, 10 digs and senior Liberty McKee added 10 points, 13 assists and six digs.

Junior Cami Arick paced Caldwell (5-5) with 11 digs, nine kills, 10 blocks, while senior Aubrey Kress contributed 14 digs and 24 assists. Senior Aleah Speck finished with three digs, seven kills, 10 blocks and three aces, and senior Addy Leake picked up 17 digs.

Cambridge 3, Union Local 2: A milestone night from senior Mariska Gray highlighted the night as the Bobcats defeated the Jets in a five-set match by scores of 11-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-12 at Union Local High School

Gray notched her 500th career dig during a night when she finished with 22 digs with 25 service points with seven aces for Cambridge which improved to 7-5.

"We couldn't be more proud of Mariska for reaching an incredible milestone," Cambridge coach Lyndsey Hummell said. "Her hard work, discipline, and determination have helped her reach this accomplishment. She continues to show up, put in the work, and give everything she has for her team."

Junior Kristen Ayres led the offensive attack with 14 kills and nine points including an ace for the Bobcats. Sophomore Paisley Williams added eight kills while senior Bailey Anderson had 11 kills, nine points, and 12 digs. Sophomore Tynli DuBose had a strong serving game with nine points and a pair of aces and also added nine digs.

The Lady Bobcats improve to 7-5 and will play at Buckeye Trail on Saturday at 10 a.m.

New Lexington 3, John Glenn 1: The visiting Panthers collected the MVL victory over the Muskies by scores of 26-24, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21 in New Concord. Junior Mya Stamm paced John Glenn with eight kills, 13 digs with a block and one assist.

Sophomore Kamry Lahrmer handed out 22 assists, with three aces, five digs, with junior Sophia Markel collecting 18 digs for John Glenn (3-4 MVL, 5-5 overall). Junior Blair Briggs picked up 10 kills, three digs, three blocks and junior Brynli Cavezza finished with nine kills, one ace, eight digs and a pair of blocks.

St. Clairsville 6, Cambridge 0: It was a rough road trip for the Bobcats with the Buckeye 8 Conference loss to the Red Devils at St. Clairsville High School.

Senior goalkeeper Quentin Stora collected 10 saves for Cambridge which slips to 2-6-2.

Bobcats' golf team take 8th at OVAC tournament: The Bobcats golf team shot 394 to finish eighth of 10 teams in the OVAC Golf Tournament at Speidel Golf Club at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, W. Va.

Brody Latham led the Bobcats shooting a 96 while Asher Byerly carded a 97, and Carter Gebhart and Ian Archibald 100 each.

Barnesville 3, Cambridge 1: The host Shamrocks took momentum from Saturday's Milk Jug Trophy over Union Local, to collect their third straight win by scores of 25-16, 18-25, 25-14, 25-10 over the Bobcats.

Londyn Gibson led Barnesville (6-4) with 21 points, 22 assists, four aces, nine digs, while Avery Bliss added 16 points, 11 kills, 10 digs, one ace. Brielle VanHorn finished with eight points, two aces, eight kills, five digs, five blocks, Alivia Smoliva collected four blocks with seven kills and Brooklyn Miller recorded 14 digs.

Leading the Bobcats (6-5) were Bailey Anderson with 10 points including two aces and seven kills; Tynli DuBose with 11 points including a pair of aces; Kristen Ayres with six points with an ace and three kills; and Mariska Gray with 18 digs and four points.

Dover 5, Cambridge 0: Despite the shutout loss, the young Bobcats showed marked improvement from their first loss to the Tornadoes. After only winning two games in that first meeting, the Bobcat's won twelve total games this time around.

At first singles, Cambridge's Julia Patterson lost to a tough Carly Dumermuth 0-6, 0-6, Emily Epler lost 0-6, 0-6 to Alaina Armstrong. At third singles, Brianna Davis played her first varsity singles match winning a game before losing to Sophia Hoffman 1-6, 0-6.

In doubles action, Madi Peebles and Emrie Boreman took Dover's first team of Brylee Amistadi and Lydia Gustkey to three sets before losing 1-6, 6-4, 2-6. In second doubles action Madison Caim and Rylee Wagstaff fell 1-6, 1-6 to Annie McConahay and Emily Catalan.
