Atlanta Hawks’ Lu Dort Gets 100% Honest on Suiting Up for the Team This Upcoming Season

The Atlanta Hawks added championship experience to their roster by acquiring Aaron Wiggins and Lu Dort this summer, and Dort expressed his excitement to suit up for them this upcoming season.

In an interview with the Thunder Wire's Clemente Almanza, Dort said he looks forward to connecting with the Atlanta Hawks fanbase and playing alongside one of his Canadian national teammates, Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

"Everything. I know they got a great fanbase. A great city. I'm excited to connect with the community, obviously. I know there's a lot of my roots and a big Haitian community out there. Everything in general. The whole city is a big vibe, and I can't wait to go out there," Dort said.

"Obviously, Nickeil is one of my closest friends. Played on the same team with Nickeil in high school and against him our whole life, obviously. When I got the call, and I knew I was heading there, I hit him right away. I was really happy. He's helped me out throughout this whole transition and with their style of play. I'm glad that I got a guy like him on my team now," he added.

Canada are one step closer to qualifying for the 2027 FIBA World Cup after securing a 97-92 win over Argentina yesterday, despite not having their best player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Atlanta Hawks guards Lu Dort and Nickeil Alexander-Walker took over by combining for 51 points.

"Honestly, every time I'm out there, I just try my best to play my role and trying to find the best shot. I've played with Shai for so many years. So I'm used to playing with him on the court," Dort said postgame.

With the victory, Canada stayed unbeaten in Group F with an 8-0 record. Their next game is against Uruguay on November 28.

Atlanta Hawks fans should feel good about the performances of Dort and Alexander-Walker, as it gave them a glimpse of what they could become this upcoming season. Particularly for Dort, he isn't exactly known as a scorer, but the one-time NBA champion currently leads Canada in points per game (25.0).
