Dwyane Wade Jokes About His Forgotten Cavaliers Run With Brutally Funny 3-Month Admission

Former NBA star Dwyane Wade is synonymous with the Miami Heat . He's often considered the greatest player in franchise history, based on his 15 seasons with the team. However, some people often forget that Wade left the Heat for some time and played for two other organizations: the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers .

He left Miami to play for his hometown of Chicago in 2016. The following season, after a buyout from the Bulls, he signed with the Cavaliers to team up with former co-star LeBron James . However, his time in Cleveland was short-lived, and he played 46 games before they traded him to the Heat.

On Wednesday's episode of "Conversations With Cam Podcast," Wade joked about his stint with the Cavaliers.

"No one knows I played for Cleveland," Wade said . "They got me out of there. I was there for about 3 months and they said 'It's time for you to go homeboy'."

Initially, he left the team that drafted him because of the contract offer he received. The Heat gave him a two-year, $20 million contract in the 2016 offseason, while the Bulls offered him a two-year, $47 million deal. Aside from the money, it was a chance for Dwyane Wade to play for his hometown.

He played for the Bulls for a season and a half, averaging 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He shared the floor with Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo , lasting in the first round of the postseason . With the Cavaliers, however, he had a more limited role.

He appeared in fewer than 50 games and averaged 11.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Wade played one more season after that before retiring from the league.

Richard Jefferson Claims Dwyane Wade Cost Him a Roster Spot

Before the Cavaliers traded for Dwyane Wade, former NBA player Richard Jefferson was still part of the roster. Jefferson, however, was dealt to the Atlanta Hawks in 2017 before ultimately being released. In a June episode of "The Richard Show," the one-time champion said Wade stole his roster spot.

"When D-Wade got bought out and he came. I'm looking around thinking, 'There's a roster problem here,'" Jefferson said . "And they're like, 'Yeah, Richard, we know.'"

Jefferson was part of the 2016 championship team and served as one of the veteran leaders in the locker room. Cleveland fans loved having him on the team. Despite spending just two seasons with the Cavaliers, he remained a fan favorite.

The current ESPN analyst averaged 5.6 points and 2.2 rebounds with the Cavaliers.
