Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes insists there are no issues between him and boss Michael Carrick – and hopes his side's win over Roma can be the start of a turnaround this season.

The 3-2 victory provided a much-needed boost for United following a run of nine games without a win.

Fernandes was dropped to the bench for his side's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last month following comments made after their 4-1 loss to Como, in which he questioned the team's approach .

But the United skipper played down any perceived problems between him and Carrick and says he is firmly focused on turning things around.

"The club needed that win, the players needed that win," he told Amazon Prime. "We have been working so hard to get out of this situation all together.

"It's been tough, there's been a lot of speculation in the media. A lot of lies around many things that have happened at this club, between me and the manager, that we have cleared the air after. Nothing like that happened.

"The manager took the decision to put me on the bench because I wasn't performing and that's fair.

"Everyone thought that was a punishment for the words that I had. If it was, it was right. The manager is the one who makes the decisions. I have to accept that.

"It doesn't change the belief I have in the manager and the staff and every player in this club. It doesn't change my aim to win every game that I have ahead of me."

United have faced mounting pressure following their recent struggles, with supporters growing increasingly frustrated by the team's performances.

Fernandes acknowledged those frustrations but stressed that the players were equally desperate to turn their fortunes around.

"It's been a long time that we didn't get the win and it's been frustrating for them as much as it has been for us too," he said.

"But we didn't take that in the wrong way. We took it in a good way because it's normal, because fans want to win games.

"They've been used to seeing this club at the top winning games and winning trophies and for them it's been so frustrating to see the club in this situation.

"I want to make everyone aware that we are all frustrated with the situation at the moment and we all want to get out of this. Hopefully this win today is the start of something good for us."

Reflecting on the comeback victory over Roma, in which United came from two goals down thanks to a Fernandes penalty and Matheus Cunha double, the Portugal international urged his side to build on the win.

"It's been a tough period for us, we have not been able to perform in the way we want, to get the results we want," he added.

"We've done some good bits, but not had the consistency to do it through a full game to get more results and it's been tough.

"But today was important to get a win. We knew after half-time we still had the fans with us, we felt at any moment that we could change it with a goal and fortunately we did it today."
