Pair of Washington First-Years Make Preseason All-Freshmen List

The Washington Huskies football team will have a significant amount of youth front-and-center this season, following a trend that has continued for the program in head coach Jedd Fisch's tenure.

Fisch and the rest of his coaching staff have echoed the sentiment that the "best players will play," regardless of upperclassmen or underclassmen status or experience.

This approach played out positively for Washington last year, which saw two players featured on several end-of-season True Freshmen All-American lists, including offensive guard John Mills and slot receiver Dezmen Roebuck .

The Huskies have two first-year players this season featured on another preseason All-Freshmen list.

A recent article from Clark Brooks of On3 Sports placed offensive tackle Kodi Greene and cornerback Jeron Jones on the publication's preseason list.

Greene's placement on the list comes as little of a shock. He was the top player in Washington's all-time program-best 2026 recruiting class. He was a five-star recruit and was ranked as the 26th-best overall player, third best offensive tackle in the class and third-best player in California, per the 247Sports composite . Greene's ran with the starters at left tackle since practices begun in the spring.

The 18-year-old will be tasked with protecting third-year quarterback Demond Williams Jr.'s blindside. If the signal-caller takes a step forward, as he's looked prepared to do this training camp, the national attention paid toward Greene could end up in him being a near-universal placement on end-of-season All-Freshmen lists, as Mills was last season.

Jones was a less-heralded recruit compared to Greene. The Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School graduate was ranked as the 438th-best player in the nation, the 46th-best cornerback in the class and 40th-best player in California, per the 247Sports composite .

Jones has had to work upwards compared to Greene, who received his opportunities with the starters right away. With projected starting nickelback Rahshawn Clark out for the entirety of spring practice, Jones stepped in to take over a decent amount of the reps in the "star" position in defensive coordinator Ryan Walters' defense.

This training camp, Jones has been running with starters as an outside cornerback due to a minor injury to second-year cornerback Dylan Robinson.

When healthy, Washington will likely maintain the status quo of Robinson and fourth-year corner Emmanuel Karnley starting on the outside, with Clark lining back up in the nickel.

However, Jones' performance this spring has likely put him firmly in the rotation for reps this season and he could be the first extra defensive back off the bench in dime package situations for the Huskies.
