Oregon vs Boise State Prediction: Just How Good Are These Ducks?

Oregon is No. 2 in the major polls, it's expected to be knee-deep in the national title hunt, and yes, this really might be the most talented Duck team in the program's history. But Boise State isn't a program that gets fazed by such things. The newest member of the Pac-12 also has big dreams coming into the season as one of the favorites to take the Group of Six spot in the College Football Playoff.

The series history is 3-1, and probably not in the way you would think. Boise State took the first three meetings before Oregon slipped by in a 37-34 fight to start the 2024 season.

Boise State has lost four of its last five season openers after winning six in a row.

Oregon has to travel to Oklahoma State next as it preps for the start of the Big Ten season at USC in late September. Boise State hosts Memphis next week in a huge showdown of Group of Six teams.

This is a better Boise State team than last year's version. Quarterback Maddux Madsen is back and healthy, the offensive line is a major plus, and the defensive line has the edge rushers to bring the heat on Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Oregon's pass rush will be fine, but it wasn't anything special last season and needs to get to Madsen on a regular basis. Can the Boise State defense really hold up against a top offense? Overall, it'll be statistically terrific, but over the last few years it's had a problem producing against the attacks with talent. Washington, Fresno State, Notre Dame, and USF all worked just fine last season against the Broncos, and this Oregon offense should be at a whole other level from those four. But it'll be the other side that should be the bigger problem, with the loaded Duck secondary forcing Madsen to try making the deep plays. Boise State might have the experience and upside to get tough like it did two years ago in the good three-point loss, but this year's Duck team is stronger. Moore will be razor-sharp from the start, but it'll be the running game that takes over and shows why this is the nation's No. 2 team.
