Karl Mecklenburg previews 'Sunday Night Football,' says it could be Super Bowl preview

The 2026 Broncos got their first win of the season beating Jacksonville in Denver. They had a short week of preparation after their Monday night loss in Kansas City. The Broncos needed to work on basics anyway. Denver's blocking and tackling was much improved against the Jaguars . They ran the ball successfully with a variety of running backs getting positive carries. Rookie Jonah Coleman looked like a veteran on the last drive, staying in bounds and chewing up the clock. Jaylen Waddle had 138 yards receiving showing Broncos fans why they traded a first-round pick for him. The Broncos offense converted red zone possessions into touchdowns.

Sunday night the Rams are coming to Empower Field. The LA/Denver matchup may be a preview of this season's Super Bowl. It's Broncos Alumni weekend so 45 or so former Broncos (including me) will be at the game. Don't be surprised if you see Nugget and Avalanche players at the game too. The Rams are owned by Kroenke Sports. Like the Nuggets and the Avalanche, Kroenke ownership keeps the Rams in contention every year. Matthew Stafford is a top-notch quarterback, and the Rams have built a strong team around him. Stafford isn't mobile, so with the help of the Mile High crowd noise the Broncos pass rush should be a factor. Nik Bonitto 's birthday is Saturday. How about bringing the heat on Sunday night!
