JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — ETSU women's soccer saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Samford at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
The Buccaneers and Bulldogs finished the first half scoreless. Samford appeared to take the lead in the final 30 seconds of the half, but Martha Bishop's goal was waved off for offside.
The Bulldogs broke through in the 59th minute when Becca Koenig finished a pass from Mamie Carman to give Samford a 1-0 advantage.
Brinley Murphy doubled the lead 11 minutes later, scoring on a header off a free kick from Caroline Smith to seal the victory.
ETSU outshot Samford 6-5, but the Bulldogs put five shots on goal compared with one for the Bucs. The loss snapped ETSU's four-game winning streak and five-game unbeaten streak.
The Bucs will play three of their next four games on the road, beginning Sunday, Oct. 11, at VMI. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
