Who should be the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week?

Athletes from Randall, Highland Park, Perryton, Bushland, Palo Duro, Friona, West Plains, Booker and more are among this week's nominees.

Fall sports are in full swing, with football, volleyball and cross country seasons underway.

Standouts from each sport are among this week's nominees for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.

The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week each week.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close noon Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.

Gael Alvarez, Booker boys cross country — Alvarez won the Class 1A division at the Lubbock ISD Cross Country Invitational with a time of 17 minutes, 0.3 seconds, leading Booker to a first-place finish in the team standings.

Chloe Brown, Randall volleyball — Brown finished with 16 digs, 13 kills and four aces in a win against Perryton.

Luke Dempsey, Happy football — Dempsey ran for 258 yards and six touchdowns on 27 carries in a win against McLean, adding two catches for 30 yards.

Jacob Erickson, Perryton boys cross country — Erickson won the Class 4A division at the Lubbock ISD Cross Country Invitational with a time of 15 minutes, 15.6 seconds, leading Perryton to a first-place finish in the team standings.

Carlos Estrada, Perryton football — Estrada racked up 16 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns on offense, adding four tackles, two interceptions and a pass breakup on defense.

Colton Foote, Bushland football — Foote ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries in the Falcons' win against Slaton, adding 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack on defense.

Berkley Germany, White Deer volleyball — Germany tallied a combined 39 assists, 23 digs and six aces in two matches.

Raymond Johnson V, Palo Duro football — Johnson ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries in the Dons' win against Abilene Cooper.

Izaac Ortiz Carrillo, Friona football — Ortiz Carrillo ran for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries in Friona's win against Brownfield.

Scarlett Pillars, Miami volleyball — Pillars accumulated 21 assists and 18 digs in a win against Shamrock.

Addison Saylor, Highland Park volleyball — Saylor tallied 44 digs and three aces against Miami followed by 16 digs against Sanford-Fritch to surpass 500 career digs.

Idaly Sotelo, West Plains volleyball — Sotelo logged 27 digs in West Plains' win against Dumas and 33 digs in a victory against Pampa.

Brynlee Swan, Hereford volleyball — Swan notched a team-high 12 kills in Hereford's win against Borger.

Alexis Wade, Farwell girls cross country — Wade won the Class 2A division at the Lubbock ISD Cross Country Invitational with a time of 12 minutes, 0.6 seconds.

Madelynn Wellman, Vega volleyball — Wellman notched 15 assists, eight kills and four aces in a win against West Texas.

Dyllon Yankee, Borger football — Yankee logged 91 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the Bulldogs' win against River Road, adding 16 tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery on defense.
