Dallas Trinity FC downs Fort Lauderdale United, extends winning streak to three

Dallas Trinity FC defeated Fort Lauderdale United, 2-1, on Friday at Beyond Bancard Field, picking up its third straight win.

Trinity FC opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a goal from midfielder Felicia Knox, who headed the ball into the back of the net off a set piece. It was Knox's first goal of the season and gave Dallas a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Dallas wasted little time extending its lead after the break. Jasmine Hamid scored just 40 seconds into the second half to double her team's advantage. Fort Lauderdale cut the lead in half in the 59th minute on a goal from forward Sh'nia Gordon, but Trinity FC was able to see the match out.

"This group is very talented. It's going to take that mentality and grittiness," head coach Lee Nguyen said after the match. "I'm very pleased and proud because we had a very similar game in the first game of the year, but this time we were able to close it out. So I'm very proud of them."

The win moved Trinity FC into third place in the Gainbridge Super League standings. The team plays Lexington SC at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown, Kentucky in its next match on Sept. 25.
