Vice President JD Vance, a lifelong Cincinnati Bengals fan, returned to his home region in Ohio on Wednesday for several local events. He began his Wednesday schedule at the FBI field office in Sycamore Township.
Later, Vance traveled to the Sharonville Convention Center to speak at a campaign rally, where supporters carried "restoring common sense" signs. Afterward, a six-SUV motorcade took Vance to the practice fields outside Paycor Stadium, where he visited the locker room, met head coach Zac Taylor, and even got a football.
Joe Burrow Reacts to Vice President JD Vance Dropping By Bengals Practice
Even with Vance touring the facility, star quarterback Joe Burrow said he didn't get to meet him. Team owner Mike Brown broke the news that Vance was on the sideline, and Burrow kept his response simple when reporters asked about it.
"We did not," Burrow said. "He came with everybody and left with swiftness and efficiency before the end of practice, so I didn't get to."
Talking about Vance's visit and what he feels about it, Burrow said, "A lot of people around. That's what I love about what I do is it brings a lot of people together. And people want to take time out of their day to come and watch what we do, and watch what I do, and watch all the work that I put in to come and watch greatness. Everybody in the locker room, that's why we do what we do. And whether it's on the TV, whether it's in person, whether it's on the practice field, that's what we do."
Vance, who is from Middletown and owns a home in Cincinnati, once watched the Bengals lose a 2006 playoff game while deployed in Iraq.
Now, coming to Burrow, the Bengals QB is dealing with some injuries. In Week 5, when they beat the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium, he jammed his left thumb trying to grab a loose ball.
The medical staff checked him out on the sidelines, wrapped his hand up, and Burrow went right back into the game. Before that, in a close 30-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, he got sacked at the 46-yard line with 53 seconds left.
But even after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars the next week, Burrow didn't panic about the team's future and kept things in perspective, saying , "We had our opportunities the last two weeks, but certainly this isn't Armageddon or anything. We're still in a great spot and feel really good about our team".
Coming off their Week 6 bye, the Bengals resumed practice to regain their footing after losing two of their previous three games. Sitting at 3-2, Cincinnati is currently last in the competitive AFC North. In Week 7's divisional game, the team will be on the road for a game against the Baltimore Ravens.
