Seahawks OC Brian Fleury gives great answer about who he asks advice from

On Wednesday night, the Seattle Seahawks will start their title defense campaign against the New England Patriots. For many, it will be yet another game in the college navy and action green of Seattle. For others, it will be their official Seahawks debut. Such is the case for offensive coordinator Brian Fleury, who will be coaching his first game as an offensive coordinator in this league.

Fleury has been an assistant/positional coach in this league since the 2013 season. Originally, he was a defensive coach, until 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan moved him to the offensive side of the ball during the 2020 season. Eventually, he became the tight ends coach in 2022 and even added the responsibilities of being the run game coordinator last year. His experience in the Shanahan coaching tree made him an attractive candidate for the Seahawks' job, especially since Seattle wanted to keep as much continuity for quarterback Sam Darnold as possible.

Unfortunately, it's his 49ers background that is the subject of a great quick joke he made on Sunday following Seattle's practice. Fleury spoke at length about his upcoming opportunity against the New England Patriots, and was even asked if there was anyone he would be asking for advice for his first game. Fleury's response was perfect.

All jokes aside, I'm sure Fleury's experience with the 49ers will prove to be invaluable when Seattle faces San Francisco later this year. The Seahawks have turned the tide back to their favor in this rivalry, having won the last two games in dominant fashion. They will get their first opportunity to make it a third-straight victory in Week 5 this year. But for now, Fleury will be focusing on attacking the team Seattle vanquished in Super Bowl LX.
