Mahomes Leads Chiefs to Wild Overtime Win Over Colts

The Kansas City Chiefs are 2-0, but they certainly had to earn it.

Kansas City survived a wild Sunday night battle with the Indianapolis Colts , escaping Arrowhead Stadium with a 33-30 overtime victory. The win keeps the Chiefs unbeaten to start the season, while Indianapolis falls to 0-2.

Patrick Mahomes was outstanding throughout the night. The Chiefs quarterback completed 32 of 47 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns without throwing an interception. After a somewhat uneven opening game, Mahomes looked much more comfortable and aggressive against Indianapolis.

Travis Kelce was once again a major part of the offense. Kelce caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, giving Mahomes a reliable target throughout the night. Tyquan Thornton also made several explosive plays, finishing with 86 receiving yards.

Kansas City built a 27-20 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Colts refused to go away.

Jonathan Taylor scored his second rushing touchdown of the game with just over five minutes remaining, tying the game at 27-27 and eventually sending the matchup into overtime.

Both teams traded field goals in overtime before Mahomes got the ball back with a chance to finish the game.

Mahomes connected with Kenneth Walker III for a 22-yard completion that moved the Chiefs deep into Indianapolis territory. Walker also finished with 117 rushing yards, giving Kansas City another major weapon on a night when the offense produced 523 total yards.

That set up Harrison Butker for the final moment.

Butker drilled a 40-yard field goal as time expired, sending Arrowhead into a frenzy and giving Kansas City the 33-30 victory.

The Chiefs aren't perfect, but they are 2-0, and Mahomes appears to be finding his rhythm quickly. After missing much of last season with a major knee injury, his performance Sunday night was another encouraging sign for Kansas City.

The Chiefs will now head into Week 3 unbeaten, with Mahomes and the offense looking increasingly dangerous.
