Over his last five starts, since July 28, Gerrit Cole has a 4-1 record with a 1.47 ERA.

The Yankees ' ace is scheduled to take the mound in Thursday night's series finale against Houston at Yankee Stadium, against the Astros ' Hayden Wesneski .

A former Yankees draft pick (2019, 6th round), Wesneski (3-1, 4.23 ERA) was traded by the Yankees to the Chicago Cubs at the 2022 MLB trade deadline for reliever Scott Effross .

After the 2024 season, the right-handed Wesneski was sent by the Cubs to Houston - along with Isaac Paredes and Cam Smith - in exchange for Kyle Tucker .

Of note for the Yankees, beyond the hot-hitting Luis Garcia Jr. and contributions lately by Cody Bellinger and Jazz Chisholm Jr. , Spencer Jones has hit safely in 10 of his last 13 games, with an .872 OPS in that span.

In Wednesday night's 9-3 Yankees win against Houston, the Yanks' Ben Rice reached base four times (tying a career high) and belted his 35th homer of the year.

Rice has played 10 career games against the Astros , and he's batting .361 against Houston pitching (13-for-36) with three doubles and two homers.
