From Mulvane to the NFL: Jayden Price makes Saints’ 53-man roster

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — From Mulvane High School to the NFL, former all-state quarterback Jayden Price made the New Orleans Saints' 53-man roster over the weekend.

After multiple practice squad stints and a year in the Canadian Football League and the United Football League, Price finally found a home in New Orleans and is in position to make his NFL debut this season.

He said it's been a long journey, but if you have a dream, go chase it.

"Doesn't matter how big of a school, how little of a school," Price said. "Doesn't matter how big of a town, how little of a town. Just that when you trust the process, you work hard, you do the right things and you can play football, then they'll find you."

Price was a three-year starter at Mulvane High School, playing quarterback and defensive back. He was recruited to North Dakota State as a cornerback. He appeared in 71 games and helped the Bison win three FCS championships.

He said the support he has received from his hometown over the years means the world.

"Just trying to set a good example for those young kids in that town and trying to make them proud and make that town proud," Price said. "And giving them something to look forward to and kind of be more thankful that they have my back."

Throughout his career, Price never forgot his roots. He's still close to his high school coach Dave Fennewald and former teammates.

Fennewald is now the athletics director at Mulvane High School, and he got to be in Dallas to watch Price's last game on the reserve list.

"We were driving back yesterday, and his mom texted me that head coach had text him and called him and said, 'You made the team,' and I was at home at that time, and I did I teared up," Fennewald said. "You just can't put that in words."

Fennewald said Price's character is what made him stand out and made the others around him better.

"If he came into school right now, you would never know he played for the NFL team," he said. "You wouldn't know. He'd walk around just like a normal kid."

Fennewald said that he has no doubt Price will take advantage of this opportunity with the Saints.

"He ain't done yet. He's not," he said. "He's going to make an impact someplace, some way on that team. He's going to make an impact."

Price's first shot to see the turf on an NFL Sunday will be against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 13.
