The Kansas City Chiefs begin the 2026 regular season next Monday night, hosting the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium for Week 1. Head coach Andy Reid, speaking with reporters Tuesday, revealed an important update on quarterback Patrick Mahomes ' playing status.

"Patrick (Mahomes) will go ahead and start unless something were to come up here in the next couple (of) days," said Reid. "But most likely, he'll be the guy that's out there."

Reid further detailed what he'd like to see this week to feel comfortable starting in Week 1 against the Broncos.

"Yeah, I mean, (Patrick Mahomes) he's shown everything there, "said Reid. "He hasn't missed a day, as you know, and you guys have seen him out there, so you know what it looks like- him running around and doing his stuff. Other than having a brace on his leg, everything looks normal. He's running around the same way he's always done and throwing the ball like he's always done. So, I think we're fine there."

Mahomes didn't play in the preseason but was active warming up before games while fully or a ting with the team. He is under a year removed from suffering the devastating knee injury in Week 15 last season.
