Aaron Donald has returned from retirement after three years away for the 2026 NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams are making their push for a Super Bowl even stronger after successfully convincing Donald to return to the sport on a one-year, $20 million contract for another ring.

While the Rams will have Myles Garrett as their primary defensive star, Donald is a three-time DPOY who rejoins as a secondary defensive option behind the reigning DPOY. It's going to be a fun year for them.

After the news of Donald's return was confirmed, Erica Donald took to X and addressed the fans by joking about finally letting her husband back out of the house again.

It has to be a personal adjustment to see your husband go back to his incredibly physically demanding job for another season after spending a few seasons of retired life with them.

However, Donald has stayed in NFL-ready shape for a reason, and an opportunity like this is precisely what could entice him to return.

Erica and Aaron have been together since 2015, his second year in the NFL. The pair have a son together who was born in 2021, which influenced his decision to retire at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Now, he returns for what seems to be a one-year-only run to help the Rams win another Super Bowl after his role in the 2020-21 season.

Donald has not played in two-and-a-half years, so there will be a considerable adjustment period over the first few weeks where the Rams use Donald as a rotational specialist instead of a full-time defensive starter.

Donald won't have to carry the individual defensive load he has had in past seasons with Garrett leading the line.

The team also added All-Pro C Trent McDuffie this offseason, showing how incredible the team can be defensively if all their stars stay healthy.

Teams will either be forced to double Donald or Garrett instead of being able to deploy two on either, which could be a nightmare for offensive OCs to figure out, provided Donald plays at the level we last saw him at.

Super Bowls are won on the field, so the Rams will hope their theoretical superteam can make it through the season healthy and remain effective come January.
