As previously discussed on Gridiron Heroics, the Baltimore Ravens needed to address the center position after placing starter Jovaughn Gwyn (fractured fibula) and backup Ethan Pocic (knee) on injured reserve. Gwyn is expected to miss at least two to three months, maybe longer, while Pocic currently has no timetable for return. As a result, first-round pick Olaivavega Ioane is a strong candidate to take over as the starting center and will get starting reps there in practice this week.

To make matters worse, the Ravens have no centers on either the active roster or the practice squad. The team worked out multiple interior offensive linemen on Tuesday, including Graham Glasgow . The 34-year-old Glasgow served as the Lions' center last season, but his struggles led to his release in March.

The Baltimore Ravens add a center with 61 starts to the squad

On X, the Ravens announced that they have signed Andre James and guard Kyle Hergel to the practice squad. The 29-year-old James brings ample experience, having started 61 regular-season and one playoff game, primarily at center. Unfortunately, things have not panned out for the former Raiders starter, and he has bounced around with two teams since being released in 2024.

Both players can be elevated to the game-day roster three times without penalty; otherwise, a fourth elevation would require a promotion to the active roster.

The Chargers signed Andre James to a one-year deal last March. James served as the team's backup center and was limited to one start and 84 offensive snaps, the lowest total since 2020. The Titans signed him to a one-year deal in June, but he suffered an undisclosed injury, resulting in Tennessee placing him on injured reserve in late August. James was released with an injuy settlement in early September and remained unsigned through the first three weeks of the season.
