Breaking down Tennessee's 638-yard performance versus Furman football

No. 18 Tennessee (1-0) defeated Furman (1-1), 56-9, on Saturday in Week 1 at Neyland Stadium. Rankings reflect the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll .

Tennessee freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon started and recorded five touchdowns in his collegiate debut. He completed 13-of-17 passing attempts for 226 yards and three touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound signal-caller also totaled 68 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 10 attempts.

DeSean Bishop led the Vols in rushing yards (97). Bishop and Justin Baker scored one rushing touchdown each for Tennessee.

Mike Matthews was Tennessee's leader for receptions (four), receiving yards (132) and receiving touchdowns (two).

Ethan Davis and TK Keys also scored one receiving touchdown each against Furman.

Tennessee totaled 638 yards (329 rushing, 309 passing), 74 plays, 29 first downs and 32 minutes, two seconds of time of possession.

The Vols were 5-for-11 on third down, 2-for-3 on fourth down and 4-for-4 in the red zone.

George MacIntyre also completed 5-of-7 passing attempts for 56 yards and one touchdown, while Ryan Staub completed 3-of-3 passing attempts for 27 yards.
