Cavan Sullivan became the youngest US international goalscorer in history with a stunning lob in a 3-0 friendly win over rivals Mexico.

Mathis Albert, at 17 years and 131 days, had set the mark with his goal against Chile on Wednesday, but his record lasted for just five days as Sullivan struck gold.

At 17 years and five days old, Sullivan - who is set to join Manchester City next season - intercepted a pass from Raul Rangel and perfectly lobbed the Mexico goalkeeper in the 62nd minute to double the USA's lead.

"These are the moments you dream of when you're a three, four, five or six-year-old," Sullivan said.

"I manifested this moment, not just these past couple of hours when I found out I was starting, but my whole life."

Sullivan, who currently plays for MLS club Philadelphia Union, is poised to join Manchester City next season after the English club secured his signature as a 14-year-old back in 2024.

However, there is uncertainty over the move after City were found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching. The club are expected to appeal.

Sullivan's chipped goal against Mexico came after another teenager - 18-year-old Julian Hall - had given Mauricio Pochettino's side the lead in the 28th minute.

"I just remember chipping the ball, hoping it didn't hit the crossbar or go over," Sullivan said.

"I was getting nervous when it was in the air and then everything was a blur."

Mexico's evening in Arizona went from bad to worse when substitute Luis Chavez was shown a red card for shoving his hand into the face of Sebastian Berhalter in the 68th minute, while Malik Tillman completed the scoring 16 minutes later.
