Patrick Mahomes makes it clear he's over questions about leg injury

With Patrick Mahomes cleared to return to the Chiefs at the start of the season, Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is keeping things in perspective. Joseph spoke about the return of Mahomes in media availability on Thursday

"I think Patrick is going to be Patrick. In my opinion, he wouldn't play if he couldn't be himself."

In Chiefs media availability, Mahomes bristled at consistent questions about the status of his leg heading into the prime-time Monday Night Football matchup.

"Hopefully I'm done with the questions about the leg."

Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee during a December game against the Los Angeles Chargers , an injury severe enough that many expected him to miss multiple games to open the season. Instead, he underwent successful surgery and was cleared to return to football by July.

In comments obtained by ESPN in August, Mahomes said his goal from the outset of recovery had been to be ready for Week 1.

"It's nine months. It's the amount of time [doctors] said from the beginning, that if I did everything the right way, I would be ready to play Week One. I'm someone that, if you put [a goal] out in front of me, I want to go out and get it and maximize every single opportunity, every rep in the weight room, every hour that I can spend in the building to get my body right. This has always been the plan. From the day I got the surgery, as quick as I did, to hopefully the first game of the year, the plan will go accordingly, and I'll be able to go out there and be myself."
