Former Team USA triathlete Spencer Korwin’s widow Carly Korwin broke down in tears while remembering her husband at his funeral in New York on Sunday. Spencer, 38, died after drowning during a family vacation on Shelter Island on September 2. His body was found beneath the dock at The Pridwin Hotel several hours after he went missing during a morning swim. Carly spoke about their marriage, their two young daughters and the life they had built together. She called Spencer the love of her life and said she still could not accept that he was gone. When he did not return, Carly alerted hotel staff, who contacted emergency services. A search involving marine and air units followed, and divers found his body underwater near the dock around 3 p.m.The Shelter Island Police Department said the death is believed to be accidental, while the official cause remains pending the medical examiner’s report. Police also said the waters can have strong currents because of the narrow passage and that tides and boat traffic are always factors.Spencer was a Syracuse University graduate and represented Team USA at the 2012 Triathlon World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand.
