Gabe Vincent believes Davion Mitchell is the X-factor for the Heat's success

With the arrivals of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson, the Miami Heat are definitely in a new era. They are ready to compete for the championship again as they want to build on the foundation of those two players and Bam Adebayo.

Of course, the attention is on the big names in Miami, but there are some players who might not get the attention that they deserve. The biggest X-factor for the Heat could be Davion Mitchell, who is most likely the starting point guard in Erik Spoelstra's system moving forward.

Gabe Vincent sees Davion Mitchell as one of the Heat's most important players

For most of his career, Mitchell has been exclusively known as a defensive stopper. Over the years, Mitchell has gradually improved his game as an offensive player as well because he has upped his scoring and playmaking.

During the 2025-26 season, Mitchell started all 70 games he played, averaging 9.3 points, 6.5 assists, and a steal per game. Those are some impressive numbers, but it could get even better with the new-look Heat.

Playing alongside Antetokounmpo and Thompson could help unlock Mitchell even more. He will have the ball in his hands often, but he could also benefit from his new teammates' gravity by becoming a better shooter.

In the 2025-26 season, he averaged 39.5% from beyond the arc. This three-point shooting could become key because the Heat desperately need floor spacing outside of Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. Former Heat guard Gabe Vincent definitely thinks Mitchell is the key.

"It's going to be Giannis, and then Klay setting the screens. Then Davion becomes your X factor. He becomes your X factor entirely. If Davion isn't making three 3s a game, it's going to look very different," Vincent said about Mitchell's role on the Heat in a conversation with Trey Mourning .

The Heat have a good chance of becoming one of the Eastern Conference's best teams. Of course, they will have to work hard to beat the other top squads like the defending champions, the New York Knicks and the LeBron James-led Philadelphia 76ers .
