Son honors late father with special yellow-haired hats for Chiefs game

KANSAS CITY — A lot of people at Sunday night's Chiefs game against the Colts were wearing red Chiefs hats. However, that's not the case for Cole and Kayla Henry and all their friends.

Jack Henry was a retired Kansas City police officer of 25 years. He also was a die-hard Chiefs fans and season ticket holder since 1994. Instead of wearing just any ordinary hats or outfits on game day, he would always look to go the extra yard.

"Anytime my dad was on vacation, he was always constantly looking for anything Chiefs-related, so when he saw some of these hats in Mexico that had the spiky yellow hair, he's like, 'Oh, I can wear that to the Chiefs game,'" Colt Henry, Jack's son, said.

Unfortunately, Jack Henry passed away from cancer in hospice care on Thursday. To honor him and his traditions, Colt Henry, his wife Kayla Henry and a group of their friends are taking one out of his playbook.

"My buddies here decided to do a little ode to my dad," Colt said. "As a matter of fact, that's where the number here kind of comes from, is the 94. This is one of the season ticket members' gifts that the Chiefs gave him. So, yeah, we're just kind of showing a little respect in memory to him."

While Jack Henry isn't at Sunday night's game physically, he's still watching the Chiefs take the field spiritually. He even gets a seat right next to his son and daughter-in-law.

"We have his seat ticket today and didn't sell it, brought his jersey to hang over it [the seat] for the game," Kayla Henry, Jack Henry's daughter-in-law, said.

Now, Colt looks to take on the yellow, spiky-haired hat tradition for years to come.

"I know for him, there was a level of comfort knowing that he was going to pass along kind of the traditions and everything to me, and that maybe I would take the helm of everything he kind of started," Colt said.

Colt tells FOX4 he was able to watch the Chiefs play with his dad one last time during Monday Night Football, when they beat the Broncos 31-10.
