Here's a look at Portage County high school sports results from the week of October 12, 2026.

The Minutemen had waged a tremendous battle against the undefeated Greenmen but a scoreless draw wasn't enough.

Aurora would clinch the Suburban American with a tie, too.

Revere (8-5-2, 5-1-0) needed a goal and freshman Emma Childs provided the game-winner with roughly four minutes to play on an assist from senior Anna Tompkins. The shot was far from easy, with Childs perched toward the top of the box and plenty of traffic between her and the net, but she tucked it just inside the right post.

"It was a great shot from a great player," Minutemen coach Dave Howson said. "We start four freshmen this year, and that's just a testament to how good those young ladies are. Emma's an amazing player on and off the field. She's fantastic."

Howson added that it "would be wrong" to merely single out the goal as Revere got any number of winning plays, including a couple of key second-half saves from Lexi Caranna.

"Obviously, Emma takes the headlines," Howson said, "but I think it's the whole team effort that got the result today, which was against a very, very good Aurora team."

Revere still needs a win or draw against Mayfield Oct. 14 to clinch the league title. Aurora fell to 11-1-2 (5-1-1) and will now need help from the Wildcats in order to win the league championship.

The Vikings handed the Golden Flashes their first loss of the season and thus put themselves in a first-place tie atop the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference. Both teams are now 7-1-0 in league play.

Koralee Jenior had a goal and an assist to lead Waterloo while Alexis Henry and Emma Murphy also scored for the Vikings. Abigail Roberts added six saves in net for Waterloo.

The Vikings finish league play on the road at Crestview while the Golden Flashes will host Garfield in their MVAC finale.

Charlie Voth became Portage County's all-time winningest soccer coach, recording his 262nd win. He surpassed longtime Southeast girls soccer coach Dean Dunlavy, himself a Rootstown graduate.

That was just one of many causes for celebration for the Rovers (11-1-2), including a Sam Textor hat trick on offense and a fourth straight shutout on defense. Indeed, Rootstown didn't even allow a shot on goal in the win. Dylan Boland (two goals, one assist), Zach Pastor (one goal, one assist) and Bryson Scarlett (one goal, one assist) also had big games offensively alongside Textor.

Lake Center def. Rootstown, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20

The Rovers (10-8) fell despite 25 assists from Olivia O'Neill, 25 digs from Ella Hayn and big nights up front from Sophi Smith (10 kills, five blocks) and Sophia Byers (nine kills).
