The Dallas Mavericks fell short against the New Orleans Pelicans, 101-97 , in the preseason at American Airlines Center on Wednesday, dropping to 1-2.

But it should not be a cause for concern for the Mavericks, who are entering the upcoming season with optimism, fueled by the continued ascent of Cooper Flagg in his second year and the much-awaited return of Kyrie Irving from his ACL injury.

The Mavericks are also high on Zaccharie Risacher , whom they acquired in a three-team trade with the Atlanta Hawks and the Oklahoma City Thunder in July.

After the game against the Pelicans, coach Dusty May highlighted Risacher's attributes, touting the different ways the 21-year-old wingman can contribute.

"The things that he's been able to hang his hat on consistently: The offensive rebounding piece and running the lanes in transition," said May in the video posted by The Smoking Cuban's Noah Weber.

"Him as an off-ball cutter. He made open shots. He just looked extremely comfortable. Just picking his spots, understanding who's on the floor each and every possession. He's someone who can impact the game in a lot of ways."

Risacher had six points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block in 23 minutes. He, however, only shot 3-of-11 from the field, including 0-of-7 from long distance.

Risacher has yet to live up to being the No. 1 pick in 2024. The change of scenery with the Mavericks could help him unlock his untapped potential.

While there is still plenty of room for improvement, May's vote of confidence should go a long way for Risacher.
