Romeo Doubs admits he 'wasn't locked in enough' on pivotal drop in Patriots debut

The start to Romeo Doubs ' tenure with the New England Patriots went from underwhelming to disappointing in the span of just a single target. While Drake Maye's primary targets in the 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks were A.J. Brown before his injury, DeMario Douglas , Rhamondre Stevenson and Mack Hollins , Doubs was a non-factor for much of the game.

Given that Doubs signed a four-year, $68 million contract with the Patriots this offseason, this was a bit baffling. However, while Doubs finished the night with three targets, he had a brutal drop in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 10-10. That drop was followed up by the second of three fourth-quarter interceptions Maye threw.

Unsurprisingly, virtually every NFL fan watching the game was quick to point out not only his free-agency contract but also his lack of production, as he finished with no catches. After the game, Doubs was asked about the pivotal drop and vowed to be better.

"No. Like I said, I just wasn't locked in enough on the football," Doubs said. "The results speak for themselves. I'll be better moving forward."

For good measure, while Doubs' drop was a rough play and a big opportunity to keep moving the ball, it was the fourth quarter as a whole that doomed the Patriots. Maye's three interceptions were brutal, and his final one came with the team trailing 13-10 and already in field goal position.

There is no shortage of issues the Patriots need to fix following Week 1, and there's also an unknown surrounding wide receiver A.J. Brown's injury , which sidelined him for the bulk of the second half.
