Defector set to launch new NFL podcast featuring Drew Magary, Arif Hasan, and no gambling

Defector, the worker-owned site built by the staff of Deadspin after it was gutted by private equity, is launching a new podcast to align with the start of the NFL season.

All Ball will feature Defector's Drew Magary and Arif Hasan, formerly of The Athletic and currently writing at Wide Left , talking about the world of professional football. In a trailer promoting the show, a voiceover promises potential listeners that it will feature "no fantasy talk, no gambling advice, and no other nerd s***."

"Drew and Arif are just two pure ball-knowers who only want to talk about one thing: football," the promo concludes.

In 2026, promising no gambling talk and no fantasy advice on a football podcast is actually a pretty strong zig against the zag of current trends. If a popular football show is not directly about gambling or fantasy, there's a good chance it's at least sponsored by a company that is profiting off of one of the two. It's just how things work now.

Hasan was on the Minnesota Vikings beat for The Athletic and continues to cover the team at Wide Left, and Magary is a die-hard Vikings fan, so while there will be no gambling, complaints and/or celebrations of Kyler Murray can likely be expected.

All Ball comes after the conclusion of Defector's previous flagship podcast, The Distraction , which ran its last episode last week . Magary and fellow Defector member David Roth hosted that show, which dates back to the Deadspin days when it was known as The Deadcast . Magary's new show will be taking over the old podcast feed.
