Scott Boras Lays Out Tarik Skubal Free Agency Outlook Ahead of Dodgers Talks

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal is entering free agency, and his renowned baseball agent, Scott Boras, discussed his marquee client's free-agent status.

Boras is known for being an aggressive negotiator who typically refuses contract extensions throughout a player's career, letting them enter free agency and letting the free market decide their ultimate value.

When it comes to getting the best possible deal for his clients, especially the top ones, no one in baseball has a more stellar reputation.

However, while that often benefits his clients, teams can struggle to lock down their players when Boras is in the mix.

With Skubal, Boras is in a position to do what he does best: explore the market, try to spark a bidding war, and land a massive deal that should break records.

Skubal's status as one of the best pitchers alive makes a sales pitch unnecessary. Boras, when speaking to The Athletic's Andy McCullough , made an interesting statement that relays how he views his client.

"Last time around, everybody talked about Skuby Doo. It's kind of like, with Skubal now, it's Skuby Done. He's proven it at all levels, in different markets, in different environments," Boras told The Athletic.

How long will it take for Skubal to sign?

Boras is typically not shy about waiting for the best possible deal and letting some teams panic about getting a deal done.

With a lockout coming on December 1st, Boras thinks teams will be highly motivated to secure players before a new set of rules comes into place.

"For many teams, I can make an argument it's clearly best for them to sign players currently, before the (new) CBA, than it is after," Boras told The Athletic.

"Because they have more freedom to do what they're going to do. They can react later. Now they can get the talent. They can get what they want."

The Dodgers, who will be talking to Boras , and the rest of the league, will need to make their pitches and offers quickly and be ready to negotiate fast, because the best player in free agency may not be available for long.
