Patriots reportedly waive defensive tackle Eric Gregory ahead of NFL roster deadline

A claim from last August will be returning to the wire.

The New England Patriots have waived defensive tackle Eric Gregory ahead of the NFL's 53-man roster deadline, as first reported Sunday by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler .

Gregory, 25, landed in Foxborough on the heels of the 2025 cutdown deadline after spending his rookie preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 6-foot-3, 319-pound undrafted free agent out of Arkansas went on to appear in seven games, including the AFC wild card, before being placed on injured reserve later in the playoff run. Across 136 snaps on the interior defensive line, he had a hand in eight tackles while providing nose depth.

During last week's preseason finale against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field, Gregory started and stayed in for 56 percent of the workload. That marked the highest rate among non-linebackers and defensive backs in the fold.

The reigning AFC champions went from 91 to 73 reported players on the eve of the NFL's deadline and acquired running back Corey Kiner in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals.

When factoring in designations to return from injured reserve, plus the physically unable to perform and non-football injury lists, active rosters around the league will be down to 53 by 6 p.m. ET Sunday.
