Details emerge following crash that killed 2 Texas Lutheran football players

Texas Lutheran University is preparing to come together this week to remember two student-athletes killed in a crash in Seguin , as the university's Bulldog community mourns their loss.

The university announced a memorial service for A'Jean (AJ) Augustine, 20, of Houston, and Deyreck Dean, 23, of Rockwall, scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, November 5, in Jackson Auditorium.

"The Bulldog Family is devastated by the loss of two of our own this week," the university said in its announcement.

The gathering will give students, faculty, staff, teammates and loved ones an opportunity to celebrate the lives of Augustine and Dean, grieve their absence and pray for their families, according to the university. A short reception will follow the service.

Those unable to attend in person can watch the service through a university livestream.

Augustine and Dean were killed early Monday, November 2, in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 46 in Seguin, according to police.

The crash was reported at approximately 2:38 a.m. in the 1900 block of State Highway 46 North. A 2012 Kia Sorento was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a guardrail, according to a preliminary police report. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

In an earlier statement to MySA, Texas Lutheran described Augustine and Dean as beloved members of the university community whose loss would be felt across campus.

Both students were connected to the university's football program. Augustine was an active member of the 2026 team, listed as a junior kicker on the Bulldogs' roster. Dean previously played for the team as a senior linebacker, with his athletic eligibility expiring after the 2025 season.
