Nets news: Michael Porter Jr. reveals Nikola Jokic didn't respond to his dating advice question

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. revealed a conversation he had with his former Denver Nuggets teammate, Nikola Jokic . As Porter Jr. enters a contract season in 2026-27 , he didn't discussed his future with the Nets. Instead, he told a funny story about his he tried to connect with Jokic while seeking dating advice during his time with the Nuggets.

Porter Jr. sought advice from Jokic due to the girl's background, he said, per the One Night with Steiny podcast.

"I hit him up one time because I was talking to a Slavic girl," Porter Jr. said. "You know anything about Slavic girls? Is that the way you say it, Slavic? So, he's from Serbia, obviously, I think that's a Slavic place, and I was talking with a Slavic girl. And I just asked him, like, 'Yo, how should I approach this? What do they like? How are Slavic women?'… He didn't respond."

After Michael Porter Jr. spent the first six seasons of his NBA career alongside Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets, he turned in the most impressive campaign of his career with the Nets in 2025-26. Porter Jr. averaged career-bests in points (24.2), rebounds (7.1), assists (3.0), and steals (1.1) per game in his first season in Brooklyn.

Upon entering the final season of his five-year, $179.2 million contract, Porter Jr. has been the subject of trade rumors ahead of 2026-27. He's slated to earn $40.8 million this upcoming season. The deadline for the Nets to sign Porter Jr. to a long-term extension came and went over the summer.
