Kayvon Thibodeaux Trade: Giants, Patriots Connected In Latest Rumor

Kayvon Thibodeaux could use a change of scenery, as the pass-rushing specialist is buried on the New York Giants depth chart as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. A former top-five pick in the 2022 NFL Draft , the Oregon product started off his career in promising fashion, recording 11.5 sacks during his second year in the league. However, injuries limited the pass rusher to just 22 games over the past two seasons, and he doesn't have the proper environment for a bounce-back season.

Now set to hit free agency after the season, it's hard to envision any way for Kayvon Thibodeaux to see the field on a regular basis. Brian Burns and former third-overall pick Abdul Carter are ahead of him in the pecking order, and first-round pick Arvell Reese will fight for additional snaps. With this in mind, it's easy to see why Kayvon Thibodeaux is a popular trade target. The New York Giants reportedly wanted a second-round pick for his services, and Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox doesn't think the team will lower its offer any time soon.

"One of the Patriots biggest weaknesses is their pass rush," Knox writes. "While New England did sign Dre'Mont Jones and use a second-round pick on Illinois' Gabe Jacas , it also recorded just 34 sacks as a team last season. If the Patriots' pass rush struggles again early in 2026, don't be shoif they go chasing sack artists on the trade market – and given their desire to avoid the dreaded Super Bowl hangover, don't be surprised if they get a little desperate."

It's hard to argue against the reasoning behind a Kayvon Thibodeaux trade. The pass rusher has been an obvious trade target ever since the Giants selected Arvell Reese, but teams like New England could get desperate as the season progresses. Alternatively, the Giants could lower their asking price if they're not in the playoff picture at the trade deadline.

The New York Giants have a new head coach in John Harbaugh and a promising young quarterback in USC's Jaxson Dart . While this team probably won't win the Super Bowl, they have legitimate playoff aspirations, especially if star wide receiver Malik Nabers can stay healthy. Trading Kayvon Thibodeaux doesn't make this team better, and keeping him around for an additional season is more valuable than the late-round pick they'd probably receive for his services. If they're fighting for a Wild Card spot in October, they'll probably keep him. However, if they're staring down another top-10 pick, this trade could happen.

The New England Patriots made the Super Bowl last year, so it's safe to say that they're ahead of schedule in their rebuild. The team still has a budding superstar in Drake Maye under center and the Patriots spent the offseason bolstering his supporting cast. By all accounts, this offense should be one of the best in the league, but they'll need the defense to hold up their end of the bargain. Quite frankly, a Kayvon Thibodeaux trade could go a long way in addressing the biggest flaw on the roster.

New England has a strong secondary (assuming Christian Gonzalez plays), but the pass rush leaves a lot to be desired. Veteran Harold Landry is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, rookie Gabe Jacas did not look good in the preseason, and it's anyone's guess as to how this team will create pressure on the edge. Kayvon Thibodeaux should start for this team and would give New England an adequate pass rush that should be good enough to support this otherwise strong roster.
